CAN ANYONE BUY TAX-FREE IN PORTUGAL?
No. Only those persons who reside outside the European Union may claim the refund of VAT paid in Portugal. Therefore, residents of the following countries are not eligible for the Tax-Free programme: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (including Monaco), Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom (includes Isle of Man)
WHAT IS THE VAT RATE IN PORTUGAL?
All retail prices include VAT levied on the pre-tax base price. In Portugal this rate is 23%. This VAT rate corresponds to 18.7% of the retail price.
IS THERE A MINIMUM AMOUNT FOR TAX-FREE SHOPPING IN PORTUGAL?
The minimum amount in Portugal is €61.35.
CAN I USE THE TAX-FREE SYSTEM FOR ALL MY EXPENSES?
You cannot claim a VAT refund on the purchase of services (such as hotels, restaurants or rentals), or for products you consume during your stay in Portugal or that you do not carry with you on your return to your country of origin.
