Carbon Accreditation by ACI Europe renewed and improved

As a result of the sustained and systematic application of a voluntary effort to manage the carbon emissions associated with ANA's activity, the airports managed by the company have had their Carbon Accreditation renewed by ACI Europe. This year, level 2 (Reduction) of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme was attributed to eight airports (Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria, Horta, Flores and Beja); the airports of Madeira and Porto Santo obtained level 1 (Mapping).

The Airport Carbon Accreditation programme is an initiative of the ACI (Airports Council International) and constitutes a specific programme for the management of carbon emissions by airports. Through it, the ACI evaluates and acknowledges the efforts of airports to manage and reduce their carbon emissions, there being four levels of recognition: Mapping, Reduction, Optimisation, and Neutrality. This programme, which was begun in ACI Europe, has since been extended worldwide.

Accreditation at the Mapping level means that ANA, a company of the VINCI Airports group, has implemented a strategy for calculating all the sources emitting CO2 that are under its direct control. On the other hand, Reduction means that ANA not only knows what its CO2 emissions are, but has managed to reduce their corresponding carbon footprint.

The calculation of the carbon footprint for ANA's airports is subjected to verification by an external independent body for levels 1 and 2, strengthening the credibility of the emission levels declared by the VINCI Airports group company.

At the end of 2015, the ACI registered a total of 137 accredited airports among its members, which represents 31% of global passenger traffic.
