Beja Airport to include industrial unit

In a ceremony held today, ANA Aeroportos de Portugal (VINCI Airports Group) and AeroNeo formally signed an Occupancy License for the construction and operation of an industrial unit at the Beja Airport. The purpose of the unit is to maintain, dismantle and certify aircraft components that are capable of being rebuilt.

The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State for Infrastructures, Transports and Communications, Sérgio Monteiro, the Chairman of ANA, Jorge Ponce de Leão, and the Managing Partner of AeroNeo, Dominique E. Verhaegen.

Headquartered in Portugal, AeroNeo SA is currently in the process of increasing its share capital to 1 million euros. The company is held by the Swiss company GreenParts Holding SA, which has a share capital of 6 million Swiss francs.

The project to be developed by AeroNeo at the Beja Airport is based on the GreenParts 95 concept, the object of which is to enhance the value of aeronautical assets through the integrated management of end-of-life airplanes for which maintenance, dismantling, reuse and recycling are assumed as links of integrated chains that respect the best environmental practices.

The programmed investment for this industrial unit, which will be laid out over an area of 7,500 m2, comes to around 8 million euros. In its operational phase, it may create around 80 direct jobs.

AeroNeo is forecasting sustained growth for the industrial unit, which is expected to dismantle five airplanes in the first year, and eighteen by the fourth year, at which

time its revenue may approach a projected amount greater than 32 million euros. The models of aircraft most commonly dismantled are the AirBus 319-320 and the Boeing 737.

The unit, which is scheduled to go into operation within three years, will respond to the demand for solutions in a growing market, AeroNeo predicting that around 12,500 aircraft will be gradually taken out of operation in the next 15 years.

This is a structuring project, with a significant impact on the region of Alentejo. It is proof of the effectiveness of ANA’s strategy to invest in the industrial component for the sustained development of the Beja Airport and the region it serves.
