Lisbon Airport invests on improvements in the Departures area

As the culmination of a process of dialogue with various partners at Lisbon Airport, work will begin next week in the Departures area with the aim of making the accesses more organised, faster and more convenient for all users. By reorganising the circulation of cars and making the accesses more convenient for the various types of public transports, this work will allow the city of Lisbon to improve the experience of all those, who for personal or professional reasons, access the Departures area of the Airport.

Among some of the alterations that will be visible already at the beginning of summer will be specific parking areas for private citizens and tourist buses, dedicated routes for public transports (taxis and public transport company Transportes de Lisboa) and the extension of the existing bicycle paths.

As a result of these works, the taxi stand will be located at the Arrivals and in the future will be able to handle two times the current capacity, to meet the projected growth of traffic at Lisbon Airport. It also is a response to the increasing importance that public transportation has in this context. This second phase of works is designed to give the Arrivals area the versatility needed to handle the various types of services offered, both now and what is projected for the future.

Based on the same factors that were the initial motivation for the decision to reorganise the accesses to the Lisbon Airport – increased operating efficiency, safety and environmental sustainability in its use – this first phase of works is also designed to minimise as much as possible the constraints felt by users of the terminal.

The works in the Departures area will begin on 10 February and take about five months.
